THE DUKAN DIET RECIPE BOOK

Previously, we reviewed THE COMPLETE DUKAN DIET COOKBOOK. This is The Dukan Diet Recipe Book (2010 British edition).

Dr Dukan, as he was then, explains in Chapter One, that his diet is based on two things, animal proteins, and vegetables.

Instantly, this makes the diet suitable for people with an allergy or intolerance to gluten or wheat. The only cereal used (occasionally) is oat meal. In France, you may be able to track down Pierre Dukan’s own oat meal brand. Elsewhere, should you wish to include oat meal, a gluten-free version is readily available.

The use of eggs, vegetables and dairy produce, make a lot of the recipes suitable for lacto-vegetarians, on a low fat or low carb diet. If leaning towards low carb, all that needs to be done, is to buy the higher fat versions of fromage frais, cottage cheese, quark, creme fraiche and cream cheese.

Dukan recipes are good for those who wish to up their protein intake. The recipes used for the Attack phase at the beginning of the diet, are ‘Pure Protein’. Dr Dukan claims that eating high protein at the start of a diet, stops dieters losing muscle, along with the fat and water. He says that it uses more calories to digest. Protein is satiating.

If you are the kind of person who loves to entertain, you can produce a completely low carb or low fat or vegetarian sophisticated dinner party, right from this book. The recipes are super adaptable, and of course, French in origin. Equally, you can pull together a quick easy supper.

A list of recipes, tweaked to become low carb, would easily be half of a quite thick trade paperback size book. BUY !
