Gennaro ‘Gino’ D’Acampo was born in Torre del Greco, Napoli, Italy in July 1976 and has dual Italian-British nationality. After training at the Luigi de Medici catering college, he came to Britain aged 19, to work in restaurants in Guildford, Surrey and Hampstead, London. In 1998, he was convicted of burglarising the home of singer Paul Young and served two years in prison.

Bontà Italia is an importer of Italian food, founded in 2003 and co-owned by Gino D’Acampo and Marco Silvagni. It is based in Cambridgeshire and imports products for the GOMO and Gino D’Acampo ranges as well as olive oil, lemon and lime juice, olives etc.

D’Acampo’s first TV appearance was on UKTV’s Great Food Live and he was a judge on Too Many Cooks for two seasons and a judge on Soapstar Superchef in 2007, the same year that his first cookbook Fantastico ! was published. This was followed by Buonissimo ! in 2008.

He took part in the ninth season (2009) of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, and was crowned ‘King of the Jungle’. Winning the competition raised D’Acampo’s profile and he launched the iPhone app, Gino D’Acampo – Eating Italian, the following year and his third cookbook, The Italian Diet was published.

From 2011 – 2021 Gino D’Acampo has presented or co-presented on 22 seasons of television shows, not all of them about cooking.

He has written fourteen cook books and his fifteenth, Gino’s Italian Family Adventure is due to be published on 28 October 2021, to accompany a new TV show.

In 2013, Gino launched a chain of restaurants and has recently launched a restaurant, named after his eldest son. Luciano.

In September 2019, The Sun announced that D’Acampo was teaming up with Iceland Foods, for a ready meal range. This Morning chef Gino D’Acampo launches frozen pizza and pasta range in Iceland and prices start from £1.50 We tried the two seafood & sauce products and they were pretty good. Presumably, the frozen ready meals didn’t sell well, as they disappeared from the website in 2020.

Loer carb bread though !

Now, Gino D’Acampo has a range exclusively at ASDA and it includes organic pantry items such as:
Gino D’Acampo Organic Green Pesto – ASDA 180g for 1.75 and 6.8g carbs per 100g. 43% basil but only 1% pine nuts. However the Grana Padano and Pecorino Romano are both PDO. Sunflower oil, sugar, pea fibre and potato starch aren’t great, but unlike some other organic brands, it doesn’t contain glucose-fructose syrup.
Gino D’Acampo Organic Red Pesto – ASDA 180g 1.75 and 8.9g carbs per 100g. Carbier and first ingredient is sunflower oil, which isn’t good, but look at the great price. There are more expensive Italian red pestos which include organic glucose-fructose syrup and this doesn’t. Two types of cheese, both PDO.
Gino D’Acampo Organic Chopped Tomatoes in Tomato Juice – ASDA 390g for £1 and 3g carbs per 100g, Not the best price, but it’s certainly possible to pay a lot more for organic.
Gino D’Acampo Organic Finely Chopped Tomatoes – ASDA 390g for 1.15 and 3g carbs per 100g. 15p more for finer chopped tomatoes and added salt. Colour Me Confused.
Gino D’Acampo Organic Plum Tomatoes in Tomato Juice – ASDA 390g for £1 and 4g carbs per 100g 390g makes this marginally more expensive than other canned organic tomatoes in juice but it’s certainly not the most expensive.
Gino D’Acampo Organic Passata – ASDA 500g for 1.15 and 4.1g carbs per 100g. A clean one ingredient organic passata and even if you buy two of them, 2.30 for a litre is a good price.
Gino D’Acampo Organic Arrabbiata Sauce – ASDA 390g for £2 and 6.9g carbs per 100g, of which 4.5g is sugar. Sugar is the fourth ingredient ! Still low carb though.
Gino D’Acampo Organic Finely Chopped Tomatoes with Herbs – ASDA 390g for 1.15 and 5.9g carbs per 100g of which 4g is sugar. Sugar is the 6th ingredient.
Gino D’Acampo Organic Double Concentrate Tomato Paste – ASDA 200g for 1.15 and 18.8g carbs per 100g Not the most expensive out there. We prefer the mini cans eg Tarantella Tarantella Organic Double Concentrate Tomato Puree – ASDA offer 25/09/21 210g for £1 and 14.5g carbs per 100g
Gino D’Acampo Organic Balsamic Vinegar Of Modena – ASDA 250ml for 3.50 2.5g carbs for 10ml Handy size and seems a reasonable price.
Gino D’Acampo Organic White Balsamic – ASDA 250ml for 3.50 and 2g carbs per 10ml. Handy size, reasonable price.
Gino D’Acampo Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil – ASDA 1 litre 6.95 ASDA Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil is 3.25 for 500ml (6.50 per litre) so more expensive, but hopefully a better quality.

Gino D’Acampo Organic Pitted Nocellara Olives – ASDA 300g for 2.20 and 3.8g carbs per 100g. Not just bog standard olives, these are Nocellara of Castelvetrano olives. packed in water with just lactic and ascorbic acids, no salt or sugar, no brine or sunflower oil. Had some in my salad and taste great. BUY
Gino D’Acampo Organic Pitted Leccino Olives – ASDA 300g for 2.20 and 3.5g carbs per 100g. Not had this variety before so bought to try.
Gino D’Acampo Nduja of Spilinga Paste – ASDA 90g for 3.50 and 1.5g carbs per 100g Not organic, but clean and high in protein and fat. If you haven’t had it, Nduja is basically a spreadable spicy salami. Didn’t notice it in time to add to the shopping list, but it’s certainly going on the next one.
